I like to think of editing as an infinite game. The object is not to win, but to perform well, improving whatever piece of writing lands in front of you. The interactive example “My Editing Process” shows how I played the game at a particular time with a particular text. Over and over, the example demonstrates that my primary concern is clarity. The remaining three samples here reveal other concerns: accuracy, honesty, and grace.
